Council will be using water from the Yarrowitch River to cool the bitumen pavement, which is melting due to the extreme heat. Council will monitor the road and use water carts as required to cool the bitumen for the safety of all road users.
Motorists are advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.
The road is now OPEN after repairs to the damaged road surface.
The reduced speed limit is expected to remain in place until the end of the week.
Motorists could use the Pacific Hwy, Waterfall Way and New England Hwy as an alternative route but this will add around 4 hours to your travel time and is not suitable for heavy vehicles.
